November is National Homeless Youth Awareness month.
Recent reports suggest an alarming rise in numbers with estimates of over 2 million homeless youth in the United States annually and a 25% increase in students identified as homeless (National Alliance to End Youth Homelessness, 2009; Duffield & Lovell, 2008).
National Homeless Youth Awareness month means you have an extra excuse to help raise awareness about a growing problem.
Tellman Knudson is running across the entire country BAREFOOT to do exactly that.
As an entrepreneur and a troubled youth, Tellman identified homeless youth as a resource of tremendous potential. Being street savvy and creative solution seekers when it comes to survival, these youths have the sort of entrepreneurial mind synonymous with success.
Its Tellman’s vision the money raised with RunTellmanRun will be used to teach youths the skills they need to get themselves out of dangerous situations and risk-related behaviors. And then to continue by teaching life and business skills that will foster their ingenuity. Creating a group of self sufficient, confident and community conscious individuals creates opportunity beyond our years. Tellman has considered a project like this for some time, but has been waiting for the right time and the right manner in which to execute his plan. Now being a well-trained barefoot runner, he has found the element that sets him apart from his peers. He is challenging his body and putting himself through this grueling experience so that he can do what he believes in most. Helping others.
“Some say I’m crazy–I say, crazy behavior draws a lot of attention…and that’s just what we need for our cause! RunTellmanRun is the passageway to a new phase of my life, and the chance to create a vehicle to help a set of the population which often goes unnoticed or ignored. I am committed, I am psyched up, and I will make this happen.”—Tellman Knudson
Two hundred or so runners have successfully run across the continental United States. Most ran for a cause, others for just the challenge. Tellman Knudson has taken on a $100 million dollar mission to help homeless and at-risk youth. He is dedicated to reaching this goal, like he has been in reaching goals his entire life.
You don’t have to run across the country barefoot to help.
You can start by showing a kid in your life that you care.
“It doesn’t matter if they’re 3 years old or 21. just make sure they know you’re there. that’s it. you’re just there. to listen, to hang out, to go to their games or recitals, to watch television, or maybe to help out in an emergency. just be there.” – Tellman Knudson
